KANSAS CITY, MO - 2008 Nov 11 Kansas City will be the site of a rally of LGBT people and their supporters on Saturday, Nov. 15th on the Country Club Plaza.
Similar rallies, to support equal rights for LGBT Americans, are being held in over 100 cities in almost all fifty states, also on Saturday.
Nettie Alford, one of the organizers of the Kansas City event, said the national LGBT community will pull together and stage what may be the largest organized LGBT civil rights Awareness Rallies ever produced.
"Kansas City has a very active LGBT community," Alford said. "We'll be joining more than 250,000 individuals who have pledged to take part in the nationwide event. Our joint message is simple - Equal Rights for All."
Alford expects, depending on the weather, 200 people will attend Saturday's rally, which will be at the JC Nichols Fountain on the Plaza, which is a common location for rallies and protests for many Kansas City groups. Among the speakers will be Missouri State Senator Jolie Justus. City Council member Beth Gottstein and other officeholders will be in attendance, Alford said.
"We invite all supportive organizations and churches to come and show their support for our community on Saturday", said Alford, who is the vice-president of the Lesbian & Gay Community Center of Greater Kansas City.
"The time has come for all American people to be afforded equal rights, and we will not stop until everyone receives the equal rights guaranteed us under the US Constitution." Alford continued.
In Kansas City, the Lesbian & Gay Community Center, Missouri PROMO and representatives from local chapters of the Human Rights Campaign and ACLU are inviting the LGBT community and allies to rally at the JC Nichols Fountain, 47th and JC Nichols Pkwy on Sat. Nov 15th at 12:30pm. Please join us and share in this call for Equal Rights for All.
